“ The vote will be held at the capitol in Tallahassee. We hope to find out the meeting room within the next 24-48 hours. ”
On March 26th, 2008, you have a chance to change government in Florida.
You have a chance to limit the growth of government and to possibly reduce its size. You have an opportunity to fundamentally alter the balance of power between taxpayer and government.
The Taxpayer Protection Amendment will be up for a final vote on Wednesday March 26th at 10am in Tallahassee.
This legislation would force politicians to get voter approval for ANY new tax or fee on the state OR local level. Government would need YOUR permission to grow faster than the economy. This bill would also cap local and state revenues by tying them to inflation and population growth!
The "TPA" is being debated by a special state commission called the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission. This commission meets only once every twenty years and has the power to take ANY legislation and put it directly on the ballot as a proposed amendment to our state constitution. We have passed the first two subcommittees of this commission, and we are now just ONE vote away from getting this bill on the November '08 ballot. If we reach the ballot we expect it to pass, but we first need to get approval from this commission on March 26th.
I understand that Tallahassee is a long drive for some people, so we will be carpooling and reimbursing gas expenses for individuals. We will be emailing details in the next few days on how you can get a ride to this meeting. If you are interested, simply reply to this email and rsvp 'yes' that you'd like to attend.
I cannot guarentee that we will get the votes on this commission. However, I CAN guarentee that the 'other side' will be there. The special interests, the tax-and-spenders, taxpayer funded lobbyists, big-government supporters, they will ALL be there.
Taxpayers need to be there too. You will even have an opportunity to speak to this commission if you choose to. The Associated Press and many reporters statewide will be there, we need to send them a message! We also need to send a message to this commission and urge them to pass our much-needed legislation.
